DTN COMMENTS: The cash market is not tested this afternoon with business set
to resume early next week. It's a good bet that new showlists will be
priced higher on Monday (e.g., 100 in the South, and 156 in the North).
Today's kill totaled 130,000 head, 1,000 more than last week, and 7,000
above a year ago. Saturday's slaughter is estimated at 57,000 bringing the
weekly total to 583,000 head, 89,000 below the previous week, but 21,000
over 2009. Cattle futures closed moderately higher in the live pit and
mixed in the feeder trade. Deferred feeder futures were pressured by
further strength in the corn market. Beef cutouts are expected to close
mixed, with generally light box movement.
